I hate to blame everything on menopause, but ...a year ago this 55 year old started getting migraines out of the blue. Then Oct. this year a strange rash that was biopsied and named "contact dermatitis". I now have cleared up from the rash, but am testing for its cause. Meanwhile, I am tired all the time and have become plagued by nausea, some vomiting, headaches and dizziness. I am 55 and nearly finished with menopause, but these latest symptoms have me confused. No lymes disease, had my liver, pancreas and gall bladder ultra sounds which were all negative. A small polyp on the gall bladder (should not be causing these symptoms). The dizziness hits often while I am doing my best to get a workout either at the gym or on the tennis courts. Suddenly my vision is blurring and I cannot play with my glasses on, where I used to need them. I think I am losing my mind. I am scheduled to see the gastroenteroligist next week, meanwhile I have a glass of wine and vomit one day, and can drink half a bottle the next and be fine? Help???:o

Help???:o Hi Mrsdawg, All of these are possible symptoms of b12 deficiency, or not. However, none of the usual tests for b12 deficiency are likely to detect this. We have a good sized list of about 275 symptoms, signs and co-correlates over on http://forums.wrongdiagnosis.com/showthread.php?p=138297#post138297. You might want to take a look and see all the symptoms you have and which ones are on the list and which ones not on the list. Fortunately this is a simple hypothesis to test. For $25-$50 you can order everything you need for a 3 month trial that will pretty well tell you if that is a possiblilty. You could have a mix of things going on. I was throwing up at the drop of a hat for years, too dizzy to walk for weeks at a time, daily headaches with regular killers, rashes and dermatitus galore, blurred vision and unable to read, killer fatigue for 16 years, mood and personality changes, and about 160 additional symptoms. And not a doc you go to will find it and if they do, the therapy offered of inactive cyabob12 or hydroxyb12 (based on country you live in) won't fix it. Come on over and compare notes and look at the list. Good luck.

What did they give you to treat this rash? Have you been on any courses of antibiotics or steroids? Are you currently taking any medications and if so what kinds? How are your stools? Any urination problems or history of UTI's or vaginitis? How is your sleep? I agree with Freddd that B12 should be ruled out and is often misdiagnosed. Don't take their word for it that you are within "normal" range, as normal is between 200-1100...if your levels fall below 500 this would be considered deficient by Freddd's standards (and NORMAL by western medical standards). Hope that makes sense. Best wishesDOM
