Unexplained weight Loss

I am male 48 years of age. I seperated from my wife 18 months ago after 27 years of marriage. The break up really depressed me and I was off work for three months. MY GP prescribed anti depressants which I took for a while.

People began to notice that I was losing weight, I was also aware of some weight loss but didn't realise how much until I weighed myself. I had dropped from 12 stones 4lbs to 10 stones 8 lbs. I loss of nearly 2 stones in less than 6 months.

I went to see my GP who took blood samples, she said she was testing for Cancer, HIV , Diabetes and other conditions. After 10 days my results came back clear. I am a smoker and also had a chest x ray, that was also clear.

My weight has remained stable at or about 10 stones 4lbs. I don't feel ill and there are no other noticable symptoms.

I am really worried that I might have some sinister life threatening illness, Cancer, HIV etc., despite clear blood tests.

Can anyone suggest why I might have lost so much weight in such a relatively short period of time.

Thank you
