Ever since I can remember I have had problems with my breath. I thought it was my teeth. So I bought a power brush. It helps a lot but now I have plaque on my tongue. It smells like gas. Sometimes I can't stay in class because the smell comes out of my nose and I make my classmates uncomfortable. I have tried tongue scrapers/ cleaners. They don't help. Please help me!!!! Do I have bacteria on my tongue. What should I do?

  • Are you sure the "gas" smell is coming from your tongue? I had this problem off and on during my life. As an adult I started having bouts of projectile vomiting. To make a long story short, my pyloris was too small. After stretching it several times, I had to have it reconstructed - a major surgery - at least then. I have that problem not longer.

Do I have bacteria on my tongue. What should I do?I too have had breath problems. I too thought it was bad oral hygiene. I have a white coating on the back of my tongue which when I scrape with a tongue scraper it looks like thick white plaque. No matter what product I use it is obvious I offend people. I am aware that the smell comes out of my nose because people sitting next to me will get up and move. The minute I start talking to someone that back away from me. How do you know your breath smells like gas??? I can't smell my own breath so I don't know what it smells like but it's obvious it is very offensive. I find when I scrape my tongue the problem is worse! Mouthwash makes the problem worse. Also, my tongue burns the majority of the time. Does your tongue burn? I was given oral Nystatin, Mycelex troches and various other drugs because I was told by more than one doctor that the problem was oral thrush (or yeast) but the use of these drugs is why the problem has gotten so much worse. A word of advice "Do not use these drugs; they will make the problem worse! At first my breath problem was only occasional but in trying to rid myself of the problem, it made the problem become 24/7. If you would like to communicate more about this problem please email me at srddom@cox.net. No one who doesn't have this problem understands. Thanks!

  • Naturapaths and acupuncturists often look at the tongue as a way of diagnosising conditions and deficeincy. Both of you should look into this. And yes, the more you scrub the worse it will get.All the best,Agape, searchingsam
