I have been overweight most of my life. when i was a child i was hospitalized at least once a year because of unexplained high fevers. This continued all the way through my teens. I was iron defecient anemic most of this time. i always had a high white blood cell count. i am now in my mid twenties. i'm over 300 lbs. low cholesterol, low blood pressure, and an enlarged liver. every doctor i see tells me to lose weight. i barely eat, but i continue to gain weight. I know i have problems with my stomach but no doctor will look past the weight. i have had a few diagnosis'; infertility, bipolar, pms, and depression. i also have had other symptoms like heart palpatations and back pain. I feel like no one will ever see the real cause of my obesity.

  • Hi, I've gone through the same thing. Its very invalidating. I've finally come to realize I MUST lose weight if any MD is going to take me seriously - they are just to narrow minded and predjudiced to look past weight. Do a sincere and honest food log, with amounts you eat also. Take it in to them and show them how little you eat. Tell them that if weight is the major reason for all your health problems that they should prescribe diet pills for you that will help you get a head start on losing the weight. I mean if they are saying for sure - its ALL about your weight - they should be assisting you in losing it. Make them put their money where their mouth is.

  • Please visit www.womentowomen.com I am certain you will find an understanding and loving ear there. They deal exclusively with the problems you are describing.I have high insulin resistance, and though I am not over weight now I started gaining weight around about 21. I was a walking stick before then. I had no idea why I couldn't loose weight even with nearly starving myself. You sound insulin resistant which can be confirmed with a GTT. If you have one and the doctor says all is well, see the test results for yourself. I was told everythign was fine when my fasting insulin was 18 and it should have been less then 10, I would not have known things were not normal if I hadn't looked at the report and readings myself. Insulin resistance causes weight gain and an near total inablity to loose the weight. and for me it seems to be the reason why I also have muscle wasting. Insulin resistance is not to be ignored, but it is. I am a bloke and am not a client of Women to Women but having read through the site I cant see they would ignore you and can advise you what best to do. But as we know this weight problem that is not from overeating is also affecting men.All the best.Agape,searchingsam.

  • Our son was recently put on antidepressents (Lexapro ) I have found that this RX will possibly put 40 to 60 lbs. on him. AND it has. It is I have read medication weight and he will not able to lose it. Check your meds, And let your Dr. know if it is a side effect .

  • let me be very clear...eating less does not help you lose wait. Eating less puts your body into starvation mode. When this happens, your metabolism will slow down, and your body will start to store fat for later use. The real key to wait loss is eating many light small meals throughout the day. And eat the right foods of course. When you are on low calorie, low carbohydrate diets, it is very important to not exercise to heavily, but a good walk will do you good. Good luck
