I have a 15yr old step son, his mother died 2 yrs ago, suicide and he lives with his siblings 6 and 8 and my partner who is not his natural father. I know all these factors do not help to make a teenagers life better, but I cannot seem to be able to help him want to do something and get so;me enjoyment from life. He shows no emotion, no remorse, no guilt, his memory is terrible, he cannot remember even the simplest of tasks unless constantly reminded. It is almost impossible to punish him for misdemeanors because there doesnt seem to be anything he cares about so taking away his priviledges does not work.My concern is whether this is just a typical teenager who has problems to deal with or whether there is a chance he has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and i should approach this differently. His mother had an alcohol problem.

  • has he been evaluated for other things such as Reactive Attachment Disorder or Asperger's? He could also have some kind of heavy metal exposure-since his memory seems to be cloudy. Also-are you sure he is drug free?
