In August, my 17 year old daughter , a gymnast, underwent meniscus surgery for 2 tears and the swelling never subsides. There is no pain. If she does absolutely nothing the swelling goes down, but even stairs will cause swelling. She has had her knee drained once and is currently taking naproxen. The leg is strong, but swelling--it is minor--persists. Has anyone experience this? The treatment has been lots of physical therapy and icing.

  • I'm 24 and have a very similar problem, I also had a partial meniscus removal about 8 months ago, after surgery my knee used to swell only when I did a long walk. Now it seems to swell without much provocation. I'm also taking Naproxen which is helping reduce the number of swelling instances but not stopping the problem, the physio suggests its due to lack of flexibilty in the leg, so I'm warming up in the bath or using Deep Heat cream (when its not swollen of course) and stretching as often as possible (atleast 3 times a day 30 second stretches).Good luck to your daughter.
