For about the last two weeks I have had an area below my occipital bone and right above my nape. It almost feels like a hive that goes from ear to ear.
however it seems to swell worse when I am sleeping because it is the worst when I first wake up and sometimes it goes down a bit then comes back. It itches like crazy when its really swollen. The doctor diagnosed me with cellulitis but only after he thought maybe cradle cap or pysoriasis...I have no pain or redness...no scaling...no oiliness...it does not appear to be any kind of bite nor can you see an entry wound, cut, scratch etc....
I am being treated with Bactrim...have been on it for about 5 days and no difference in symptoms...Has anyone had these symptoms?????
Frustrated and Itchy

The dermatologist I went to could find no reason for the condition and the last doctor I saw gave me an Rx for steroids which I never used because it was obvious he didn't have an answer either. Also frustrated.

  • hi...do you have thick ,long hair....this could cause the irritation when you sleep ..if so go to a hairdressers and ask for them to thin your hair out...i also have this problem and found using t-gel shampoo (available from chemists)a step in the right direction .also change your pillow to a hollow fibre stuffing..it will allow your head to breath more easily at night.most important leave the area alone fingernails carry lots of nasty yukky stuff .. i know its hard to do but if you keep on scratching you could end up with blood poisioning or somthing of that nature all the best mark.b

We have a dog and a cat, both can be the cause. There is a test that can be done.

This is a somewhat common condition for migraine pts. You could try applying an ice pack (wrapped in a towel) to the area ~30min.
