sun allergy or photosensitivity

The end of 1989 I had a sore on the side of my nose that would not heal and if I go out in the sun I would get small red bumps that itched and if I was out in the sun everyday all day long my face will swell up,I throw-up and run a low grade fever. I went to a clinic and was asked some questions then I was told I had Photoseniitivity. I was told to stay out of the sun or I would one day have to have curtains on every window. You know coats hats and sunglasses. I wear sunscreen where I can and told not to use soap with perfume. It helps some. Towards the end of summer it does not bother me as bad. But I was told if I don't stay out of the sun for every day I spend it the sun 1 to 5 years could be cut off my life so I live like a vampire.
I just feel like it's something else wrong. I have all the symptoms but eyes sensitive to the sun.
How can I be diagnosed with just questions like "what soap do you use" "what type of moisturizer do you use"? The sore did heal up and go away. I live in the desert now it's the safest believe it or not. If a day is overcast the sun still gets me but if the sun is bright I cannot ignore it.
I am hoping for some advice, suggestions or anything.
