Three years ago, I was hit head-on. Both vehicles were traveling at 45+ mph. She ran a light, I saw her coming and braced for it. Both of my hands were on the steering wheel, my arms were fully extended and locked in an attempt to avoid the other car. My airbags deployed and my car was totaled. I was able to walk away from the accident. Thank God. But, I wasn't uninjured. Immediately I began having sharp pains in my neck. My doctor thought it would stop in a few weeks. After countless appointments, pt sessions, pain management sessions, experimental procedures, accupuncture and being told to deal with it, I finally found a Dr. who ordered a full MRI and an EMG, nerve test. These had been done previously. The difference being this doctor knew what he was looking for. I recently had my C-5 & 6 fused. Prior to the surgery, I was told that I appeared to have damaged my Ulnar nerve. I have had many issues with my hands and fingers in the last 3 years, but thought it was a result of what was wrong with my neck. My hands go numb, my finger joints ache and have sharp pains in them. I cannot open jars and I have a difficult time writing or using fine motor skills. I am only 32 and I am a teacher. I can't continue to live like this. This problem with my hands is making it nearly impossible to do my job or enjoy my hobbies.
