I have been diagnosed with Spasmodic Dysphonia this year and am currently doing voice therapy and BOTOX injections. I have alot of Flu like symptoms (muscle and joint pain, fatigue, headaches, and some swelling) almost daily. All of my doctors that I have gone to brush my symptoms off as depression. I am currently treated for depression and anxiety with panic disorder also. I know that the dysphonia adds to my depression but I beleive that the other symptoms are not just depression and would like to know if anyone else with Dysphonia could shed some light or give me some information for someone to contact to check this out. I have had these symptoms for ten years now and they have gone from occuring sometimes to almost an every day reoccurence. I have also been told that my stress causes these symptoms but I feel like I don't have any more stress in my life than anyone else. If anyone has any input I sure would like to hear from you.

  • I was diagnosed with spasmodic dysphonia about 11 years ago. I have been treated with botox for abductor dysphonia many times since that. This condition requires a constant juggling act, too much botox and you lose your voice entirely, except for a bare whisper. Too little or too long between injections, and you sound gravely and hoarse and can become aphonic, especially with my case which affects vowel sounds. Anyway, if anyone wants to talk about this and my experience, please feel free to post.

  • My sister has been going through the same thing-she has recently been diagnosed with dysphonia and herniated discs. She is so lethargic and has seen every doctor under the sun. She just started getting tingling behind her arms. How is your situation now? ANy further diagnoses?

  • Hi, I'm getting ready to see Dr with what so far they are diagnosing me with spastic dysphonia. I was told by last dr that Botox is what is now being used to help this condition. I have been without voice for three months now, and it's hard at times to be around people due to this symptom. What have you been told about this condition, and how are you coping with it? Really would like to visit with you about it if possible. Thanks
