  • I'm not a doctor, but you seem scared and I can give you some very general information. Hopefully, the neurologist that frequents this site will see your post. He is very good and can give you better answers than I can.Why did you have an MRI in the first place, are you experiencing any symptoms? What led you to the neuro?Generally, a pineal cyst is found in up to 5% of all MRI's. They are usually not symptomatic (meaning you don't feel anything because of it). Headaches are a common symptom if there are any. Less common would be vision trouble or hydrocephalus (water on the brain). It is common for these to never cause any issue and even resolve on their own. Did they tell you the size of the cyst?Pineal cysts are on the pineal gland in your brain, deep and in the middle. This gland is part of your endocrine system. The pineal gland helps your body with it's sleep/wake patterns, as well as some other things. If your doctor is not explaining things to you, you should get another doctor. It is imperative that the doctor/patient relationship be a good one, IMO. Don't hesitate to ask any questions of your doctor, this is your body. Also, you may want to get a second opinion on the results of the MRI because while these are not difficult to diagnose, some types of tumors can look similar on the MRI. Don't be scared by what I just said, most likely it is a non-harmful pineal cyst. But, as this is your brain we are talking about, I would get a second opinion even if I had a great deal of faith in the first doctor. Why chance this?Stating any symptoms you might be having along with the medication (if any) you are taking would be helpful. It would also help to know your age and if you are male or female. Please know though, you potentially give up some privacy by writing these things over the internet. Best wishes to you--if you have any specific questions, please ask and we will try to answer. :)
