I am a 53 year old female. My symtoms started with numbness in my toes and fingers. It progressed to severe cramps in my legs, then the migraine started and lasted for 1 month. I now have severe numbness over my entire body (even my face),severe fatigue and muscle weakness.6 weeks ago my Dr. ordered many blood tests, blood levels were ok except inflamation in my muscles should have been below 140, mine were 248. and I tested positive for the herpes virus. Neuropathy tests(EMG) show their is no nerve or muscle damage. Skin biopsy was taken to check for Small Fiber Neuopathy also a blood test for Lupus was drawn. I have been on Prednisone for 6 weeks for the inflamation with only mild results. The Neuologist started me on 25mg. of Pamelor for my Fibromyalgia and it has helped somewhat with the pain and fatigue, but the weakness and numbness persist. MRI ruled out MS., with only 2 small lesion that I was told are quite common. I cannot walk or stand very long without getting weak anf fatigued.Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • My boyfriend recently started a new job as an electrician. He has been working at his new job for two and a half weeks. Over the past few days he has been experiencing numbness and tingling in his hands. He says it feels like they are asleep. There is very little pain or discomfort and it is in both of his hands but more so his right hand.iPhone 5

Thanks.I wish I could help you, but I can only tell you that I'm going through something similar.I was on medication for a UTI taking (Nitrofurantion/Macrobid) and during that time, I developed numbness/tingling in the my left hand, and sometimes it would radiate to my foot. I too was fatigued and developed headaches. When I went to do blood work, all they found was a high sed rate (inflammation) and a borderline positive ANA that my doc didn't seem too concerned over.I've had xrays, ct's, and now am scheduled for more imaging.I have headaches, tingling/numbness in the left hand (that is now spreading to the right one), shooting pain in my forearm, wrists, and legs, a burning/dull ache/numbness sensation in my back (to the right of my spine), shooting pains going up both sides of my neck, and a weird electrical sensation going through my chest (I have a SLIGHT irregular heartbeat, after ekg's and echo's, the docs don't seem very concerned)...now it's time for more tests.I'm very tired, as you are too. It's frustrating because you just want to put a name to the pain. Please let me know how you're doing.

Thanks.Update:10/13/11I had to be taken off Pamelor because when I increase the dosage, as I was told, it cause an allergic reaction. My skin biopsies came back showing nerve damage. I now have a diagnoses of Small Fiber Neuropathy, which shows itself with muscle weakness and fatigue. They are now doing tests to determine what underlying condition has cased this. It could be something like exposure to chemicals, Lupus or something heriditary. Although Lupus would explain the inflamation in my muscles. The Doctor said many people diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, actually have Small Fiber Neuropathy.

  • Update from 53 year old with numbness and inflamation:Skin biopsies came back positive for Small Fiber Neuropathy,That don't normally show as nerve damage on EMG test. Now they are testing me for hereditary conditions that cause inflamation and Lupus (which would explain the inflamation in my muscles). Also for those of you that are having similar problems, have they thought about Transverse Myelitis? It's an inflamation in the spine. I'm going to ask my Doctor about it since my symptoms have localized in my spine and I have pain, numbness and an "extra electrical energy feeling" in my middle back. I'll update next week after more test results come in.
