My mother went to England 9 years ago, about 1 year after getting back she became ill. First it started out as just mouth sores (cold sores) then these same sores (larger) started showing up in her private parts. Which later we found out also were all inside on the bladder, everywhere. Along with high fevers, low blood pressure, high white cell count. Then later with these outbreaks stomach pain, with very bloody stools. Several trips to the ER nothing. More outbreaks with other things, like lack of appetite, vomiting after meals. Was given lots of labels, but still had outbreak after outbreak. Doctors put her on fusion treatment. (Remicad) Bad stuff, but keeps these outbreaks under control. Still dont know what she has, and when it gets close time for her treatment, she starts to show signs of her illness starting with the mouth sores. Any idea from anybody would be helpful.

  • Sounds likes herpes. She could get a blood test for it, both 1 & 2 and maybe syphilis (sorry mom). If it is herpes, then an antiviral will help a lot. She has to watch her diet, too..avoiding chocolate, nuts and caffeine. Best to boost the lysine rich foods:beef, cheese, eggs, potatoes, soybeans. It could be nutritional deficiencies, but seems more viral like since it is in her bladder.

Even though the sores are a form of herpes, it does not show up in the blood work.

  • have her get a copy of all of her lab work so she can review what tests she has had...could be bechets, but that is very rare.
