Hello to all I am new here and would like someone's opinion other than my family and doctors. I am a 24 yr old female and have been married two years. I am 5'9" tall and weigh 150lbs. I have always been real flexible and acitve with an over abundant of energy. My family history consists of heart disease, high blood pressure, gout, kidney stones, and asthma, most of which are one my fathers side. I am currently taken Cymbalta for depression because I have had to deal with these problems for so long. I would appreciate anyones response because I feel like I have nowhere else to turn. I feel like the drs are tired of having to deal with me and are just giving me pain meds to shut me up. They help with the pain but are not a diagnosis and that is what I want.
Before I got married I had two diagnosis, Scoliosis and Asthma. One month after I got married I started to notice that I had pain in my wrists and my hands started to swell and I couldn't make a fist. It got to the point that I couldn't even hold a pen to write. I went to the doctor who said I had what looked to be rheumatiod arthritis, I have no history of RA in my family.
He started me on Methotrexate and after about 10 weeks all the skin on my tongue started to peel off I got dizzy often and was very fatigued. I went back to the doctor and he said that I was having a reaction to Methotrexate and took me off and then preceeded to tell me that I didn't have RA, (b/c my bloodwork showed normal) but that I had carpal tunnel. He then put me in splints that didn't work and he got frustrated with and said to just take ibuprofen for pain.
He referred me to another doctor who said that I once again had RA and he put me on Enbrel once a week that I eventually had a reaction to( the medicine actually made me feel worse than when i took it) and he, like the dr before took back the diagnosis of RA and said to just take ibuprofen (800mg 3 x day). Both drs tried predisone and it seemed to work at first but the symptoms returned and I was taken off to not gain to much weight. The second Dr got so frustrated with me that he said " I don't know what is wrong with you and I don't care who you see as long as it is not me." and he refused to help me any longer.
So I am now on my third rheumatologist who says that I once again have RA and has me on celebrex 2 x days as well as Plaqueniel. During this past two years I have also been diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse and Hypothyriodism. I am to the point now of having to have help standing, can not open medicine bottles ny more, and I am considering getting a cain to help me walk because of the pain that is now in my lower body. There is not a day that goes by that i do not hurt.
Some other symptoms:
lumps or nodules everywhere on body, even in the head
swelling all the time
difficulty sitting or standing for any length of time
severe pain in lower abdomen on left side
difficulty breathing (not b/c of asthma)
lower back pain
severe knee pain

I am at my wits end. I just know that it is not RA, but whatever it is is affecting every aspect of my life. It has really affected my sex life almost to the point of quitting all together. If anyone has any idea what so ever it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You for taking time to read this. Much Love

  • You need a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and a NAET doctor.Neck pain might be a sign that you have liver trouble- like inflammation or an infection.Don't flip- a Doctor of Oriental Medicine understands liver very well.Find the best one you can around your area. I was a liver patient back in November, and after visiting 5 different doctors, I found the perfect DOM.Maybe is not even your liver- maybe just an infection or inflammation.Best.

Wow, methotrexate is one of the most toxic meds...it is very possible that you are having reactions from this, even many months later. PLEASE look this drug up on www.drugs.com - that doc should not be practicing medicine in my opinion... Please look up all the drugs you are currently taking as docs don't check for side effects and you are on your own with this... PEOPLE - YOU MUST EDUCATE YOURSELVES BEFORE YOU TAKE A PHARMACEUTICAL...DON'T BELIEVE YOUR DOC OR PHARMACIST WHEN THEY SAY IT IS SAFE. PLEASE, BE INFORMED! I will agree with EataFruit on finding a good DOM in your area. They will really be able to get your body back in balance, but be prepared to go for awhile as you have alot of chronic debilitating issues. A good acupuncturist who is also a trained Chinese herbalist will be able to sit down with you and come up with a diagnosis based on ALL your signs, symptoms, tongue and pulse diagnosis. It is an ancient and complete form of medicine that has helped billions of people worldwide. NAET is a relatively new treatment that is also amazingly effective for chronic disease. The theory surrounding it is that chronic illness may be caused by a hyperactive nervous and immune response to certain allergens. Allergens may be vegetable, mineral, foods, animals, even emotions. Please visit www.naet.com for info on this. It is extremely effective for treating autoimmune diseases, like RA. Anti RA drugs are extremely toxic, and can sometimes cause many more problems than they fix. Your liver sounds like it has been damaged, and when the Liver qi cannot move smoothy in the body, it will cause stagnation and pain. Please consider these forms of treatment as I really feel you will benefit greatly from them. Best wishesDOM

  • Thank you so much for at least giving me another idea to work on. I really appreciate it. I have considered acupuncture before but was a little weary of the needles. I will research some docs in my area, Thank You

  • Please don't be afraid of the needles, they are extremely thin. Many times you don't even feel them going in, and sometimes feel a very slight ****k but it should never hurt. Try to find someone who was trained here in the US, as some Docs trained in China use a more agressive approach, which can be a stronger treatment. Either approach will give results, but I believe in a gentle treatment for my patients. Acupuncture is surprisingly relaxing. It releases endorphins in the brain, and oftentimes my patients fall asleep during their treatment! Best wishesDOM

  • Did you ever have an MRI or CT of your spine to check for tumors causing this? Any appointments with a neurologist?

  • Glad you are having the tests done, but if they turn up inconclusive and the docs give you no other answers, then please try an alternative approach. It is just as valid. There are many paths to healing. Best wishesDOM
