  • Wow, that was a fast diagnosis. I went through 6 miscarriages, weight gain, irregular periods, hair loss, cyst drainages...10 years of mourning and ***l and I'm only 26! What other symptoms do you have? One very common symptom besides fertility issues is something women do not like to discuss...excess facial, thigh, body hair (ie that overgrown happy trail?). It's called hirutism and can be caused by an adrenal disorder (the endocrine gland on your kidneys) or by PCOS. Also caused by PCOS is elevated cholesterol, and blood pressure.I was/am always an active person and had a very low blood pressure until things got out of hand with this PCOS (100/60). Then my level went to 140s/85. My blood pressure was a sudden symptom of a very bad year with PCOS. Turns out I have very high cholesterol with no apparent reason (not coming from my diet, I promise). Now I'm on vytorin for cholesterol, hoping that will help blood pressure in the long run. Do you have any unexplained weight gain? 'Unexplained' meaning your diet and activity levels have not changed, but weight has.Sit down and really think of everything that is going on with your body...are your periods regular always, sometimes not, or nonexistant? Hair loss, excess body hair in places you don't want, mood swings, miscarriages (PCOS can also cause increased insulin levels that kill fetuses, and cause insulin resistant diabetes). Have your regular doc check your blood pressure at every visit. Also at regular yearly check-ups, have your cholesterol checked. If sudden weight gain is an issue, have your insulin levels checked. You may not have high blood glucose levels, as I never had, but I was surprised to find out that my insulin levels were high, causing their own set of problems down the road.If all that you have right now is a cyst with no other symptoms, look out for the symptoms in the future. PCOS is not something that POPS up suddenly, but gradually overtime, or shall I say the symptoms build up over time. Your doctor may put you on birth control pills to control the cysts. If your against birth control, think of it as hormone therapy. It may save you alot of heartache in the future...or may not. Overtime, if symptoms progress but you think it may not be PCOS, think about talking to your doctor about Cushings disease of the adrenal gland.
