This medical mystery has been driving me crazy for almost half a year! So it all started at my friend's house 5 months back. I was with 3-4 of my usual friends drinking bottled beer that we had purchased a few hours earlier. I had a few beers in my system already when I tried to reach for a high ceiling my friend had bet me I couldn't reach. After a minute or two I realized I wasn't going to reach and decided to cheat and lift my feet a little bit. That's when I felt this painful pull in my upper and lower legs. I ignored it for the rest of the night but ever since then the strangest thing has been happening to me. In the two months following the party I would feel the same pains every night before I went to bed and sometimes even during the day. Anyways, I noticed during the second month that I had grown a full inch in height since the party, height that seemed to come solely from my legs. Seeing as I was 17 years old at the time (just turned 18) I didn't think much of it and assumed it was a final growth spurt. Except for the same leg pain every night all seemed well until about one month later when I started feeling what I can only describe as the exact opposite of the "growing" or "pulling" pains, violent contracting pains would interupted my sleep for about an entire week. I didn't notice it right away, but it was a few days later that I realized I had shrunk in height! Probably about half an inch at the time. Since then my height has been continuously changing, in both directions. I have been deviating between my original height the night of the party (5ft9) and (5ft10) and this has nothing to do with spinal compression or bad posture. When I say 5ft10 I mean 5ft10.5 in the morning and then 5ft10 min at night and when I say 5ft9 I mean 5ft9.5 in the morning and 5ft9 at night. Also, the length of my legs is clearly changing and the pains are not going away. My doctor told me this was impossible and claimed I was hallucinating and recommended I try "rolfing" for the leg pains as I may have caused a problem with the connective tissue in my legs. Anyways, rolfing has helped with the pain but I am still very curious (and worried) about the funny growth pattern. I'm hoping my growth hasn't been permanently stunted or I haven't caused a hormonal imbalance of any kind that will later open the flood gates of my immune system to an army of disease. If anyone has any idea what this might be (Other than a hallucination, as I have spent countless hours exploring that possibility) please let me know!
