My sister-in-law, Heather a Utah resident, has Oligodendroiglioma. Diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago. She is now 25 and has 2 young children one of which was C-sectioned out when the undiagnosed brain tumor shifted her brain and they wanted to try to save one of them. Her story is extremely traumatic and I think one of the most heart wrenching stories that I have ever heard. It is a miracle that she is alive and functioning. My brother was a student at the time and now teaches school. She has tried keeping a job but has lost them due to memory loss, responsibility... those types of issues. My brother is a high school drama teacher and also works with youth that are struggling to stay in school. She was the spouse in charge of the finances in the house. Well since all this they have had many ups and downs financially. Over the summer she lost her job and was uninsured. My brothers insurance picked her up in sept. with a pre-existing clause. I guess they didn't understand what that meant. She needed check ups and MRIs as they monitored her tumor. She has recently found out that she needs brain surgery again. Through trying to schedule her surgery it has come to light that it or any of her treatments won’t be covered until May. They have thousands and thousands of dollars worth of bills that they thought were going to be covered and now are not. They can't get any Medicaid assistance because with a teacher's salary they do not qualify. They are barely making it month to month living humbly in an apartment. We are desperately trying to find some type of financial assistance to help them with their medical bills. Do you know of anything we can do? or anyone we can turn to?? Please help. If you know of anyone that may be able to help, please forward this on.
