I am 22 in the Air Force if you have ever seen The Guardian I am the guy that does the hoist work for the helo. I spend most of my day crouched over or in a squating position with about 35 pounds of gear pulling on my lower back. About 8 months ago i started having lower back pain and burning sensations in the lumbar region and also pain in my tail bone. The pain usually comes about after a couple of minutes of driving a car, sitting in one position, or standing up. Pain has started to interupt my sleep especially if i wake up on my stomach. I got and MRI a couple weeks ago, but military doctors take forever to get back to their paitients just wonderg what's goin on.

  • Hi, I am not a Doctor but I have been dealing with lower back pain for a long time now. I am a 28 year old mother of two and it is touch. I am assuming your MRI will show either L-5 through S-1 disc herniation, bulging or tear. They also may say you have degenerative disc disease. THey usually try medications, like anti-innflamatory's, nerve medication, physical therapy, before considering surgery. Well good luck and be patient.

  • 22 is too young to start back problems. It's impossible to diagnose over the i-net for something like general low back pain but my guess is facet syndrome. Bone on bone rubbing in the lumbar facets. You're probably plenty strong but that usually means plenty tight & inflexible. It could be disc tear leaching out some nucleus material irritating surrounding tissues. After your MRI results follow their advice unless all they tell you is use some of the gigantic, free bottles of NSAID's the military is know to give. Get core strength, get flexibility and don't lift wrong (which is easier said than done in your case). Some discomfort is expected with overuse which may also be your situation.
