Hi prior to christmas I was a pretty healthy 36 yr old female who exercised 4-5 times a week. Walk/run on treadmill very active with my kids, work etc.
Symptoms:Just before New Years I came down with a cold, runny nose, sore throat, very tired, some shortness of breath (felt like I had to breath deeply). Cold symptoms cleared, got pink eye, fatigue and shortness of breath continued, pink eye cleared up, got chest pain, a heavy pressure like someone sitting on my chest, sometimes experiences pain behind right breast, other times behind left breast. Most often behind left breast. Feel like no strength in arms, and legs (wobbly on stairs) but can squeeze my hand tight even when I feel like I have nothing in my arms. Tiredness throughout my shoulders, neck, all upper body. Breathing is difficult, I can breathe a deep breath okay, but I'm panting after going up my basement stairs, heart rate increases etc. Got pink eye a 2nd time, 3 weeks after 1st time. I washed my hands constantly and Lysoled everyting in my house when I got pink eye 1st time and again 2nd time.

Here's the tests done, blood gases normal, breathing function (normal and above normal before ventolin- 20-30% increase after ventolin), chest x-ray (1 doctor said there were fuzzy spots, so gave me a strong antibiotic for a chest infection) but the x-ray report to my family doctor said chest x-ray was normal. Blood tests for Thyroid, blood clots (had one huge one in past, related to taking the Pill), mono, etc.

Treatment now: inhalers for asthma, cipralex for anxiety disorder.

I really don't feel this is anxiety disorder. I don't feel panicked. Am I under stress? Yes, I work a lot, I have a young family and that's life. I do know I am not handling my stress as well as I use to. Age?? I am easily irritated too! Any ideas?

  • What did you do around Christmas that could have changed your health? Did you eat/drink too much or get very tired and stressed?

  • I can't think of anything that I did over Christmas to change my health. Social drinks, no bingeing. More food than usual, like every Christmas, but same type of foods. Except for coconut cream I used to mix Pina Colada, but a couple friends also had drinks from same batch. The coconut cream was a canned product form the Dominican that I purchased at our local grocery store.

  • How is your digestion? Any gas/bloating? Loose stools? Any nasal congestion? Cough? Phlegm? Headaches? Any other skin irritations other than pink eye? By the way, a great treatment for conjunctivitis is to take green tea bags (right after you make a cup so they are hot) and place them on your eyes as a compress. If you can find Twig tea (or kukicha) this works even better. You can also get an eye dropper and use the tea as a wash. Works wonders!! The chest tightness and breathing difficulty suggests pneumonia. The fact that they read the xray differently may mean you should get another one and another opinion. By the way, there are several causes of pneumonia, and sometime it is due to fungus. Antibiotics would make this worse in that case. It is also sometimes viral, and takes some time to heal... Can you find a good acupuncturist who specializes in Chinese herbal medicine? It is extremely helpful for upper respiratory diseases. Log on to www.acufinder.com for more info. Best wishes.DOM

  • My digestion is good. I never have any problems in that area. Some mucous in my throat that won't go away when I swallow. Only alieviated when I get it up and it is clear or white but very stringy. The inhalers seem to be helping the tightness in my chest. I'm still super tired and my eyes look like I'm possbily getting pink eye yet again! I also have this lingering head ache. It's like I'm going to have a migraine but it never develops into one but is aching all day!

  • Although I am not a doctor, It all suggests an Adeno virus infection. It might be worth suggesting that to your doctor.Adeno virus can cause all sorts of infections, including conjuntivitis and pneumonia.Hope you feel better soon.
