diagnosed 20 years ago. Now gfr is in stage 3 (37.6) for past 4 months. I am always tired, exhausted actually. My Neph says that I am "not that anemic" for epo shots, which is fine with me but my question here is, now that the disease is progressing, what should I be looking to ask the Dr. My chol. and trig. are all rising when four months ago I was below normal. Thanks for any insight! Quoddy

  • I was diagnosed 2 years ago. My GFR was 17. Now it has improved some. Cholesterol and Triglycerides don't have much to do with the kidneys but do have alot to do with your heart. You need to get those in control. Your kidney failure can be helped by watching your diet and choosing the right foods. Eat less protein and more low glycemic foods. You can keep it from progressing for awhile. I am also anemic and feel tired at times. I take an iron supplement and it seems to help. My nephrologist suggests losing weight, eating properly and exercising. He says the GFR rate changes with age and I should be watching the creatin level instead. That also changes with age as does your BUN...it's a tricky disease. I let the doctors advise me.
