Taking 8mg ARB medication. Systolic pressure during day varies between 100 - 130. Cannot explain why during evening systolic pressure can go up to 170mm and drops back during second reading to 110.
Blood test show high thyroglobin antibodies, free thyroxine abd TSH normal, endo. confirm I am euthyroid, no evidence of Graves disease or thyroid eye diesease. Ultrasound of thyroid confirms normal. Total chlorestrol 4 mmol/L, Trylcerides 0.45 mmol/L, HDL 2 mmol/L and LDL 1.8 mmol/L.
Renal ultrasound and renal artery doppler confrim normal. No evidence of hydro-nephrosis, hydro-ureter or stone formation. No evidence of renal artery stenosis. Kidney found a 1.2 cm simple cyst.
Echo cardiogram confrim heart function is good.
Aldosterone (Upright) 363 pmol/L (Range 100-950) and Renin H92 mU/L (Range 3.3-41). Aldosterone/Renis Ration 4 (Normai Range <70). Confrim no diabetis.

Exercise daily one hour walks. Diet cut out adding salt to food. What is causing the spikes in the systolic pressure.

  • Blaze thanks for the reply there is no mobile phone tower in my area.I read in this forum about the diagnosis of renal artery stenosis using renal ultrasound and renal artery duplex is not the best method. Use of Magnetic Resonance Angiography and followed by Renal CT Angiogram is the gold standard. Has anyone have a similiar experience? Can anyone advise what other checks to confirm whether I have primary or secondary hypertension???I am worried the Plasma Renin Activiity is high. PRA test was done while on Atacand an ARB hypertensive med. Should I change to ACE med??
