Hypersensitivity Vasculitis

In 2007 I was diagnosed with Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis. It originated on my feet and has progressed to my knees and now it is on my arms from shoulder to finger tips. I feel like someone is pouring fire ants in my veins. I itch all the time. I am off my medication due to no medical insurance as well as when I was taking Dapsone at different intervals (up to 200mg a day) over a year period I contracted MRSA 3x's.

The breakout I have been dealing with now is on both arms on the underside of my upper arms. It is constantly itching and again feels like something is crawling under my skin, a pain that I hate having to deal with. My ankles this past weekend swelled to the size of softballs. They burned and itched, I scratched and now I have bruising on my ankles, feet and legs.

Could I be getting other symptoms to the vasculitis. I have been very fatigued. I am not losing weight (oh how I wish I was), I have cut back on carbonated sodas, I eat 80% healthy, I do not drink very often but usually it's only 1 or 2 beers.

I work at a Educational Theme Park and with being around so many guests a day, I cannot afford to go back on Dapsone, Prednasone or Colchine due to it lowering my immune system as it did when I had the MRSA.

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what I can do to stop the itching ( creams, lotions and the like do not help..it makes it itch more).

Thank you!!

  • Hi Darkwings...I hope you are not still suffering so much from the rash and itching of your vasculitis. I also have leukocytoclastic vasculits. I've found that Cetirizine (Zyrtec)1mg/ ml syrup. helps alleiviate the itching that drives a person nuts. Upon the first signs of another itchfest take about 3 tsp. of it (adult dose i suppose)Should be in the childrens allergy section in the pharmacy. I get it at Sams for $2.50 a bottle. Very affordable. Fairly safe. Just don't give in to the urge to drink the whole bottle in a frenzy of itching! It should take the edge off anyway. Good luck with finding your wayback to health. Did you have weight loss with it? My rash is minimal right now but is tending toward another flare. I'm losing weight like its falling off! and my hair is falling out too.Jenny121

I take allergy tabs but they haven't seemed to help. I still break out, the spots on my back and the back of my arms are still there but the feet and legs are the most painful. I ended up taking my daughters 800mg ibprophen to try to help alleviate the pain but it didn't help. On Sunday and Monday my ankles looked like softballs, I have reddish purple splotches on my feet and still working at the same company, I stand all day except for my breaks. I have not lost any weight since my first post but I haven't gained either. I have had hair fall outs several times, though I chalked it up to having my hair always up in a ponytail. Since I no longer have the health insurance and what my company does offer the Insurance group does not cover pre-existing conditions or any side effects from those conditions. It would cost well over 3/4 of my paycheck to pay for medical insurance, so I just suffer through the pain and swelling. I wish I hadn't been chosen for this "Condition" Noone deserves to have this. It absolutely stinks!!

  • I have been dealing with vasculitis for over three years now. I am a 22 year old female and it is a battle every day. I have chosen to deal with it naturally and now eat organically as much as possible. Alcohol is a HUGE trigger, as is emotional stress. By eating healthy, exercising and cutting out alcohol I can manage my break-outs. I havn't had to take steriods since my initial diagnoses.
