Herpes Vulvitis?

I received a papsmear in July and was just sent a letter last week (it is now Oct) saying I had an abnormal result. Today was my appointment and I was told by my Dr that I had Herpes Vulvitis and that I needed to start taking valtrex daily. After I came home I began to research Herpes Vulvitis and what I found is that vulvitis is caused by several things such as an allergic reaction to soap or not wearing cotton panties. I have had NO symptoms of herpes and all the sites said I would have an outbreak within 2-3 weeks after being infected w the virus so Im thinking in 3 months I should have noticed something.

Has anyone else ever heard of this and could my dr be wrong?
