I developed an external hemorroid that produced some bleeding but has since stopped. I was examined by a Nurse Practioner who indicated that it seems under control but to be sure has referred me to a gastroenterologist for further review. I am a 44 year old male in otherwise excellent health. Is this referral necessary?
