  • .post nasal drip, caused by infected sinuses.they infect because the surrounding tissues swell due to allergy, probably caused by mold spores, possibly exacerbated by tobacco smoke.find the source of the spores.ask the doctor about antihystamines and a decongestant for him.he will also need several courses of antibiotics to clear out the sinuses.but if you do not find the allergen,be it spores ,yeast in food ,smoke ,animal hair or dander,or just plain house dust,it will probably keep coming back anyway.obviously, you will have to make sure he avoids colds and flu,as they can start things off on their own.the doctor is wrong to say that it is "just a cough," because it has been discovered thay children with persistent cough are more likely to develop c.o.p.d.(chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) in later life.this usually means a reduced life expectation,( if you understand me.)clean his environment meticulously and make sure he keeps away from all places where smoking takes place even if it isnt happening when he is there.good luck with this.
