  • My son had it (18 years old) Because I am a preschool teacher (more common in children under 10) I recognized early symptoms and because he went back to college he never sought medical advice. I had told him that there is nothing they can do for it which is information that I got from our school nurse and mother of child who went to doctor. Not sure how he got it but we did have that one little girl in my class who had it, so perhaps through me even though I didn't get it. I never saw the blisters but 2 weeks later he still has dead skin from blisters on hands.

  • 1. Who do you know that has had the disease? I currently have the disease.2. How did they contract the disease? I work at a daycare, and their is currently an outbreak going on. 4 kids in my class have had it, now myself.3. How was it treated? My doctor told me to make an equal part solution of maylox, benadryll, and Lidocaine (prescription) and rinse my mouth out every hour. It makes your mouth very numb and makes the mouth ulcers much more tolerable. Also gave me Triamcinolone, a steroid cream to put on the ulcers at night.4. Did the person have to go to the doctor? yes5. What did the doctor do? see above.6. How long did the disease last? still currently going on7. Was the disease spread from you or the person affected? Caught the disease from 18 month olds. (thanks kids, i love you too)8. How did you find out it was Hand Foot and Mouth Disease? Outbreak was going on at work, and i woke up with sores in my mouth, and my reaction was oh f**K, Went to the doctor and he concluded.9. How old was the person affected? 2210. How long was it before the diagnosis of had foot and mouth disease was made? same day.Reply With Quote

  • For those of you who had it as adults working in daycare settings- did you have to stay home from work? I was just diagnosed today and don't know whether I'm supposed to stay home or not. I'm a speech pathologist working with kids so I guess that's how I got it...please reply.

Being a contagious thing and to be respectful to the parents of kids who may end up infected by your contact with them.. i strongly suggest to stay home. I know i'd be very upset if someone gave my child something they knew they had themselves.. and costed me money due then to childs medical cost to take to a doctor.
