What hard to detect thing could be causing hair loss in myself, my 9 yr old daughter, and my 11 yr old step-daughter? This has been going on for 13 months. We have lived on an air force base for 2 1/2 yrs. After doing searches, I found one site listed radon as a possible cause. Our house tested at a 14.8 level for radon and the base put in a radon reduction system which made our radon level at 0.4 now. That stopped the whole families health problems of headaches, respiratory infections, runny nose only in the house and sinus infections. I'm told radon doesn't cause these things but that the radon system also takes out other VOC's. I am positive the house is causing hair loss because the base let us stay in the hotel on base on 2 separate occasions and the hair grew back in the 3 females. The first time was for 2 months in the summer and we all had new hair growth. We move back in another house on base and the hair loss starts again so I did research and found our radon was high. We moved to the hotel for 1 month that time and had new hair growth. We've been back in this house after the radon system for 4 weeks and the hair loss started again. Last night when I got out of the tub, I saw the 2-3 inch long new hair growth from the summer all over my legs. I'm so upset that my new hair growth is falling out. My step-daughter has to clean out her hair brush daily. They said they tested for mold before we moved in in the summer. I've had my hair tested on base recently and was told only the mercury was slightly high. I have no idea exactly which things they tested for. I don't know if the radon caused all our other health problems that have suddenly stopped but I only found the radon by luck. But it's obviously not what's causing the hair loss. There are other females on base having hair loss and they don't have high radon. These houses are about 50 years old. There are 2 floors and a basement. The floors are all wood. 4 of my family has had allergy testing. I'm only allergic to dust mites and grass. We've been told the hair loss is caused by stress. Living in a cramped hotel with 6 kids for 2 months was stressful but all our hair stopped falling out! i have the video of all our new time in the hotel and the visible hair that started growing. They've done blood tests on us on base. They;ve tested the water. I don't know if it's something in the air or products they used in the 50's that are in this house. What tests can I g\et. What might be causing it that won't show up in the hair or in the blood? Is something poisoning us that's causing it? This is a small town with no professional experts to hire myself to do tests on this house. I can only order things online. There are only mold inspectors and those are about 90 miles away. If you know what could be in a house besides mold and radon that could cause this, please contact me.

  • Please, visit a NAET doctor. It might take her 5 minutes to find out what's making her sick. NAET can also make her tolerant to the trigger after identifying it.Go to NAET.com and find a practitioner and take her there even if you have to drive out of town. I am sorry, but I think this is very serious. I know what's like to be terribly sick, in danger and waiting for a military hospital to decide your destiny.I won't even go into details of what is that service men and women get exposed to- but all the housing is toxic and they won't do anything about it. I know it- I talked about it with the subcontractors that do the 'touch up' maintenance at the base housing. Please learn the truth about vaccines, processed food, and Eugenic experiments on the population, also about the petrochemical cartel. House hold cleaners kill more house wives of cancer than any war, bomb, or person wearing a turban. In fact, housewives die faster and earlier than women who are not exposed to household cleaners.Best.

  • Personally, sounds like base housing is messed up. I can't say for sure, there could be other reasons but Military is Military. You get BAQ and that means you can live anywhere you want with it. If the House is causing this, get the ***l off post... You don't know what goes on in a Military Base, they have all sorts of goodies on them these days. I have lived on and off base for 16 years. The Military Doctors will blame you, they are usually pretty crappy. So I will safeguard my family and look for a trailer at the worst, they're pretty nice these days. For if your problems are Enviromental you are pretty much screwed. There is a lot you can do, but Lordy the effort is going to kill you. Is it Radon, is it an Allergen, is it something else. You have to start eliminating things and if you can moving is step 1. In my opinion. Then you can go from there if it's something else. You eliminated the Major Suspect

  • Well, radiation sickness makes hair fall out. Since you are on a base, you will never get the answers you are looking for. Sounds like the Radon is under control, but the dose remains in the body. You all could see if sea salt and baking soda baths help--2 lbs of each, soak 45 minutes or until the water cools...

Monsterlove, aren't Military Bases sometimes home to Nuclear Waste? For instance there are Artillery shells tipped with Uranium or some type of Nuclear junk. Some bases are quite old and since their military who knows what has been done or disposed of there. I lived in Ft. Ord, Ft. Bragg, Frankfurt & Mainz, Georgia.. I remeber when I was a boy walking on one of the bases and seeing a sign for Health Code Danger right next to public housing. Furthmore an ammunition dump couple thousand yards in the ground from the houses! I do not imagine that Health Codes historically were the foremost Military Practices. Especially in a very old and unimportant Base... Just Guessing but along with Gulf War Sydrome the Army is notorious for two things. Brushing it up under the carpet and not taking the blame!

  • Try testing for slightly elevated levels of CO2, then for fungus and molds. This web site may interest you.http://www.sixwise.com/newsletters/04/12/12/the_six_silent_killers_in_your_home_how_to_detect_and_eliminate_them_004.htmHave you had the house checked for termites? Is there a furnace in the house?http://www.chapmanhvac.com/webapp/GetPage?pid=77 Regards.

  • I found this while searching for a cause for my own hair loss and thought I would share what I think is the cause. I realize the posts are all a few years old, but maybe this can help someone else who is at their wits' end trying to figure this out. My husband and I purchased a house last November. After moving in, we noticed the water was cloudy and orange. We figured it was from the house sitting vacant for so long and that running the water would clear it up. Well the water is a clear, dark yellow now and has been ever since the rust water cleared out. I got curious one day and decided to see if the EPA had any reports about the water in my town. It did. High (as in "unsafe") levels of arsenic, lead, and radon. Not to mention the chlorination that all towns do nowadays. Lead and arsenic are known to be causes of hair loss, among other myriad health problems. Chlorine causes significant health problems as well. Even though we've been drinking and cooking with bottled water since we moved in, we still use tap water to bathe. That arsenic, lead, and chlorine is not only being applied directly to our scalps, but also being inhaled in the fine mist of the shower. Hot water apparently causes chlorine, a gas, to exit the water and build up in the steam you breathe. What all this means is that if you're suffering from hair loss and can't find a reason, look to your water supply. I'm ordering a water-purifying kdf shower head from heartspring.net for both of my bathrooms and for my mom. I won't have my family inhaling toxic substances any more... and I look forward to the new hair growth I expect to see in the next couple of months. We also live in goverment housing (public housing) Me (30), my nine yr old son and my daughter who just turned 3 have been experiencing the thinning hair and runny nose only in the house, the hacking cough in the morning, shallow breathing at night, veins under our eyes, eyes burning, headaches, muscle pain all the above. I have done several tests and have some history with working with them and I am telling you now, THEY SIMPLY DON'T CARE and will lie and cover it up any way they can! I too am still looking for the answers and I think I have found what it is? I just need to figure out how to test for it. I have done an air quality test wich I think I didn't get the right one, but it still proves my theory, I also came up with it from my recent lab tests, and the fact that they are all built on landfields also supports my theory. So what I came up with from the combination of those 3 things was Carbon TetraChloride. Look it up as it is serious and can leaD TO serious health problems. Also when looking it up in my state (UT) the 2 known places it has been known to be were the Base and the Tooele Army Base. I hope this helps in anyway and maybe if we keep in touch, we could help eachother? But definitely look it up, I'm not sure if it's your answer or even mine but it makes a lot of sense. Ms

  • for the lab tests you said it came up in, was that blood work or the air tests you took? I'd like to keep in touch and maybe one of us will find something to tell the doctors to test our blood for. Did you also get the tests from lowes or home depot to test for mold? The pitre dish ones worked for us. • Well it looks like I've finally found others with the same problem...but no solutions? My hair started falling out about 4 years ago - except when I'm away from home. Then, like you, mine starts growing back. Every time. I also developed a lot of food allergies about the same time. Have made a lot of improvement in that area, but no improvement in the hair loss. Except when I'm away from my home for more than a week. I've lived here since 1994, tho - so why now? Have had every skin and blood test there is, I think - they've found food allergies, and I do have a slightly elevated CO2 now. Also had high (11.1) radon in the house, so am getting a pump installed next week. But it looks like others have fixed their radon, but it didn't fix the hair loss problem. Does anyone know what tests I could ask for to see what it might be in my house that's making me sick? It's about 50 years old now...Thanks so much - KarenBeau
