My grandaughter, age 8, has been in St. Lukes Hospital, Bethlehem, PA for 5 days with a sinus infection that caused severe swelling on her left forhead, closing of her left eye-with bruising, spikes in fever, reducing as each day progressed, from 103 high down to 100 high. She has terrible pain in her head, nausia, lack of appitite and sleeps through the headaches. She was on a course of intravenious antibiotics during this time. Tonight she had a second CAT scan and the doctors say she now has a brain infection. Nothing will go on for her tonight but tomorrow a team of specialists will come in to determine what to do. My questions are related to whether her parents should request that she be transported to a pediatric hospital to insure that she will get the best and fastest care. I was thinking about The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. I have no idea whether or not the doctors in our Allentown PA area are the very best. It seems to me that the care she has been given by her current drs has been a little slow going, and know for sure that they did not culture the bacteria before they began the antibiotics. Does anyone have any ideas that can help up determine where to turn for the best care. Thanks, GailBReply Follow This Thread Stop Following This Thread Flag this Discussion
