When I was 36 I began slowing. Given Premarin and told I was perimenopausal. By 40 I was just plain tired and raising 2 teenagers myself; so I quit smoking. I was still tired. I began complaining to doctors, insisting something was wrong...thyroid or something. I just got passed around...and eventually diagnosed with fibromyalgia and depression. The fatigue continued...deepening year after year. I visited an gastroenterologist who suggested I might be tired due to gluten. I quit gluten and in four days felt better and continued to have withdrawals (dizziness and ups/downs for a few weeks). Generally felt better. Started noticing reaction to carmel popcorn and other foods having traces of soy...figured I was allergic to soy...because after consumption, I'd feel a great drop in my strength like I had slammed back a lot of alcohol at once and was losing control of my faculties. I steered clear of soy...and after a year tried it again and found it was not a problem/no longer a problem. A few more years passed, and again I found myself complaining to doctors about needing more lift with more and more B12 shots and more and more help with depression. Barely able to keep my house and barely able to keep my job, I suffered for 11 - 13 years. Recently I ate a large amount of peach yogurt containing ANNATTO (known by many names) and in no time felt that familiar sinking feeling, lethargy, weakness, fatigue. I was reacting to this widely used food coloring that kids sometimes are allergic to. It's orange or deep red and used in yogurt, cheese, Mexican food, gummy bears and similar candy, rice mixes, soup mixes, chili beans, and just everything under the sun!!! And I'm apparently allergic or sensitive to it--making me sleepy and basically exhausted and even slur my words at worst. Tell everyone you know to complain about food coloring additives!! I've lost a ton of years of my life to this and a ton of money trying to compensate and get by, running to doctors and having tests, buying every energy vitamin on the market, living in a near filthy house alone and lonely because of more than a decade of severe unrecognized allergy to this hidden food additive!
