Facial pain on one side-what is it?

I have had facial pain (skin sensitivity to touch), pain in the ear and a swollen neck gland, only one side of the head at a time. This usually occurs a couple of times a year, and generally around an event of change, like moving, taking exams, big event coming up, etc. It lasts 2 to 3 days and no medication works. I have had this for 12 years and have never been diagnosed. I have only ever met one other person with the same symptoms and he has not been diagnosed either.

Does anyone know what this is and how to treat it?
