About a year ago I contracted pink eye and had the discomfort and pain that can be associated with it, it went away and then came back a week later. after the second occurance the discharge and many other symptoms went away, but ever since i have had a variance of eye pain. Every day a constant dull pain is present, some days severe, some days just nagging. It worsens when i wear contact lenses and my eyes become red and bloodshot. Sometimes my eyes burn so I thought it was dry eye, but over the counter drops such as Genteal and Refresh provide NO relief whatsoever. I was put on restasis, provided no relief, punctal plugs, no relief again. Schirmer tests always show that i produce alot of tears. i have also been given prescription eye drops that were described to me as "extra strength visene without preservatives" to see if it was irritation and then my doctor told me he didn't need to see me anymore. so i've been tested for migraines and nothing is helping there either Are there any other problems this could be that are not dry eye or migraines?

  • I'm having a similar problem with my right eye. One day in February my coworker noticed that it was red. Since then, it has not been 100% clear once. Whats so strange about it is that my left eye is completely normal. I've been to the family doctor, a rheumatologist (i have other inflammatory problems), an optomotrist, an opthamologist, and a cornea specialist. No one can tell me what the problem is. I haven't been able to wear my contacts for 2 months, and if I don't take some type of medication my eye starts killing me. I've used visine, clear eyes, lotremax (prescription steroid drops for inflammation), ibuprofen (prescription strength for inflammation) and even prednisone (prescription corticosteroids for inflammation). The OTC drops worked for about 4 days each. The lotremax worked for maybe three weeks. The ibuprofen worked really well on my eye, but after three days I ended up going to the emergency room because I was having chest pains when I breathed. I'm currently trying the prednisone, but I don't think that thats going to work for too much longer either. I don't know what kind of doctor to go to. Who do you ask when the doctor doesn't have any answers?
