End Stage Liver Disease/AIDS

I am seeking information regarding ESLD. My son is 33 yrs old has HIV and HCV(hep C) for 15 years now. The last 2 years he has been very ill. He can no longer take HIV meds because of his liver. 2 years ago he was diagnosed as full blown aids. He is in a Hospice facility and I was told he has probably six months to live. The ESLD is horrible the only thing keeping him alive is the Lactolose.He has been in the hospital many times to have the fluid taken out. There are so many symptoms I can't even list. The dropsey's and losing everything he has is so sad. He fell a few weeks ago and lost 3 pints of blood(he has no platelets). Now he has this huge burst of energy. He obsesses over crazy things. The Doctor says this is common.
How long can this bust of energy last? He sounds better and is very active now, he still has problems with his motor skills and memory but wants a electric scooter! What can I tell him?
