Dry cough (or vocal cough?)

I'm having dry coughing since 7 or 8 months by now. My symptoms are slightly different: I cough only when I speak (is there something called vocal coughing?). The cough is dry and it never produced anything. I don't cough in the night, in the morning, in doing sports. Yeah, I cough only when I talk. If I don't speak, I almost feel nothing there. It's normally a light coughing, just like cleaning out the throat. It started with a cold in the November 2007. Since then, it keeps coming and going (some days are better than the others).
I have visited the family doctor several times. Got check x-ray, found nothing in lung. He doesn't have ideas after trying several medicines. He sent me to an Otolaryngology who checked my air flow (looked through a mirror through my nose - cost over $600 in less than 2 min) and found nothing wrong. He then sent me to an allergy specialist. The allergy specialist asks me to do allergy test which costs too much for me and I didn't do it.
I do have allergy in the spring (from April to May) since over 10 years. The allergy symptoms are running nose and ichy eyes, but never connected with coughing. I doubt it is allergy because I still have the same cough when I was on my trip to Japan in this January.

Anybody has similar symptoms? Any ideas what it might be?

Did you inhale a large amount of dust or insulation within the last 6 months? I was helping a friend remodel an old house when a wind blew up a bunch of insulation and I inhaled. I vomited it was so much and felt sick for days. I was assured it is not asbestos but I am not sure if that is the cause of my cough now.
