I am a 20 yr old female. for the past 3 months I have been experiencing dizzy spells, where I have fainted twice and fought unconsciousness several times. I used to faint sometimes during menstration, but that happened maybe 3 times and it hasnt happened in a while, so I doubt its connected to this. The first time I recently fainted was after sexual intercourse i stood up and immediately passed out. since then, off and on I have had several dizzy spells. One time I was in a stressful situation, and I passed in and out of consciousness, vomiting in between. I have been having a lot of difficulty focusing, and it makes me nervous while driving, I actually did get into a very minor car accident during one of my dizzy spells. I just feel like I am in a constant daze lately. Also, I used to experience headaches just about daily during high school, but I dont experience them nearly as much anymore. Usually I get very brief headache or more pulsing after I stretch at work or stand up. I have not actually seen a doctor about this, does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this? I come from a family with a history of just about every heart problem, diabetes, high blood pressure. When I have had doctors appts, I have had very normal blood pressure and sugars, but I do have high cholesterol. Well, I think thats everything, your thoughts are appreciated.

  • I was thinking low blood pressure, but probably anemic...don't know...could be lack of quality food nutrition.

  • I have been having exactly the same problems as you for several years now. Some doctors say it's because I have low blood pressure and am slightly underweight. Others don't know but say they hope I will grow out of it in time. I know it's not really that helpful but at least your not alone.

  • i have been suffering from dizzy spells and fainting since i was very young, i faint less now, but the dizzy spells are always there. every time i go to the doctor they say they cant find a cause. sometimes they have refered it to high blood pressure but i have test after test at the hospital and even now, im 21 and its still "inconclusive!'

  • During your next doctor’s appointment, explain your symptoms. Do you have low blood pressure? For now you can increase your sodium intake, limit soda. They contradict each other.Research Vasovagal syncope. Unfortunately, this is an expensive symptom to diagnose. To actually obtain an accurate diagnosis, you would need to be seen by a neurosurgeon and a cardiologist. I would suggest the cardiologist first. If everything is ok on that end, omit the neurosurgeon. If all else fail, see a neurologist. If you have more questions, please comment and I may be able to further your knowledge in this diagnosis.I hope you find an answer.

  • Hello: I can relate to the dizzy and sex topic!!!! I am a 45yo male, who is having problems with dizzy spells sometimes during (but mostly after) sex or masturbation. I first had (non-sexual) dizzy spells every few days back in Feb 2007, which reduced to every few weeks. Each spell lasts only about 30 sec, but being fully steady afterwards takes another minute or so. I noticed the spells associated with specific movements, like turning my head quickly, looking down during eye movement involved tasks, scrolling up or down on a computer screen. Since there was a correlation between spells and the eyes, I figured it may be a visual thing. HOWEVER, I now have the MOST IRRITATING problem of dizzy spells after sexual activity. I have always enjoyed masturbation, so it is difficult to be afraid to enjoy myself due to fear of an attack. I also have had anxiety issues all my life and some panic attacks. But now I can also have a dizzy spell associated with a panic episode, which I never had before. I have been able to adjust since the non-dizzy spells are not as often, AND since my panic attacks are NOT as often as they once were. BUT, ....the new "sexual episodes" are the real issue that I find most difficult to handle. Any ideas???? HELP!!!!!! :(

I went in for testing and found that I had high cholesterol. After taking Crestor for several weeks the dizziness went away. The only time that it came back after that was when I decided to reduse my dosage as an experiment.

She saw a neurologist and had a CAT scan, MRI amd EKG and it was found that she has siezures and with medication can funtion normally with any further experience. I suggest you see a specialist in the field of neurology, and request all three tests. I hope this helps and you will soon have many days without any further episodes.

  • Do you tend to be vegetarian mainly and/or bleed heavily with menses? It could be anemia related to low iron intake and/or heavy menstration. Possibly it could even be a petite mal form of epilepsy. Another possibility could be a heart condition, but I'd get anemia ruled out (especially if you meet the above criteria) before pursing other diagnostic testing. =I am a 20 yr old female. for the past 3 months I have been experiencing dizzy spells, where I have fainted twice and fought unconsciousness several times. At first, I ignored it, because I have been having dizzy spells since I was young. Sometimes it would last a few seconds, and other times it would bring me to my knees. I usually put it to being immobile for a while and then standing up suddenly, but less than two weeks ago, I woke up one morning and went to my bathroom. Next thing I knew, I was on my back on the floor, after having passed out for an unknown amount of time. I have never passed out like that before, and haven't since, but the dizzy spells don't go away.I am a little concerned and someone told me that it may be anemia. What can I do?

  • I use to faint quite often. I bedame very scared to drive. I went to different doctors several times (ran every test under the sun) and they kept telling me I was fine- nothing wrong with me "my numbers were all NORMAL!!" BULL! Finally, after years of this battle I found a huge bump on my throat. It was a nodule on my thyroid. I've had my thyroid removed and haven't fainted since! I did faint from anxiety attacts too, but all has been fine since I had my thyroid removed over three years ago.

    8 Surprising Facts About Cholesterol

Did you know that one in six US adults has high cholesterol?

  • its nothing to worry about. my gf has the same thing. it basically has to do with blood pressure and different stuff like that. but the basics are, treat your body as an 80 yr old womans. as in take it slow when starting to move, when you go to lay down, go slow, and when you go to get up, go slow, like when you get out of bed, sit for like 15 seconds, then get up. its basically caused by fast movement, and your bodies pressure cant keep up so u get dizzy like old ppl. as the doctor was telling my gf, its very common thing in women from 19-30. it sometimes lasts up to 20 years so learn to get used to it. drinking lots of fluids helps as well.least it means your healthy :)

  • I'm a 20 year old female and have as well been experience similar symptoms to those mentioned above. The doctors have ruled out low/high blood pressure, Anaemia, Diet, STD's and just about everything they have tested. They have taken a chest xray and put me on multiple courses of antibiotics for a recurring kidney ache i seem to also be experiencing. Obviously this is quite worrying as the fainting spells can come on completely spontaneously and force my legs to buckle. In addition to this i constantly feel exhausted and have fainty feelings mutiple times most days. If anyone has any suggestions id be very geateful, this is pretty much ruining my life.

To all of you who have problems with dizziness and fainting, I had the same problem. The first time it happened was when I was 7 years old, and after that it went on for years. We never found out what it was, until a nurse found out that I am hyperventilating without being aware of it myself. The reason it never occured to me that hyperventilation could be the cause is because I never felt particularly stressed or anxious before losing conciousness. But for some reason, my body feels stressed and I start breathing faster than normal. I never really notice untill the dizzyness comes. Sometimes I also forgot to breath all together if I am doing something fun or exciting, and I get dizzy everytime after sex So I recommend you start paying attention to the way you breath; even though you might think this can not possibly be the problem or all there is to it, give it a try.
