Explained!! Working as a foreman of a sheet metal shop, I shattered two disc (L4 -L5) and was shattered so bad pieces were all around the spinal cord. One piece had lodged on the siatic nerve and was 3/4 of the way cut through when had surgery. No longer could do this, went back to school, after one semester- surgery 2 more pieces found cutting on nerves. Surgery during Christmas break, another semester with total 4.0 average. President's list and Who's who. 2 more surgeries over summer break. more pieces and degenerative bone disease at L5-S1. Did not go back to school went to 3 months of pain control at Touro Pain Center in New Orleans. Came home hiatel hernia ruptured from large amount of medicines had repair. 2 years later 5 surgery degenerative bone disease at L5-S1. Remove all disc hoped for natural fusion. Doctor retired, left no references, dropped all patients like a lead balloon. 2004 pain out of control, found new neruosurgeon (fantastic) he fused S1-L5-L4 for stability. Veteran Affairs open Veteran Hospital to Peacetime Veterans and went there for medicines at a cheaper price. Started slowing using there doctors and nurses and the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Veterans Hospital in Jackson, MS one of the 10 best in country. Getting great survice. Started having lung problems. From 2004-Present have been diagnoised with: chronic upper respriatory infections, COPD, Emphysema( stopped smoking 11 years back and no mention of any lung problems, just quit.), Sarcoidosis of the lungs, heart and liver ( on oxygen daily 16 to 18 hours a day, obstructive/central sleep apnea (bi-pap on oxygen increased), narcolepsy (do not drive), hypothyriodism, Hypertension, short term memory loss, saliva gland and taste bud shut down (saliva used to cleam teeth between brushing- 4 years later all teeth broke off at gum line, and had all pulled), cellulities, carpal tunnel surgery on both wrist, another hiatel hernia repair, pain pump and nerve stimulator implanted for pain relief when fusion of S1-L5-L4-L3 ( L2 is weak), and major depression disorder with panic and anxiety attack in public. And after 4 years still working on Veteran Affairs for exposure to asbestos, mold, silica, and lead paint while on active duty in the Navy. Family and I have lost everything: house, vehicle, savings, wife's retirement, kids college fund, and had to move back home to rent small house from niece and her husband for the same price at their note. Wife been out of work for 3 months and now working and driving 75 miles a day to job. Sometimes life does not seem fair then I see some of the young men and women coming home from Iraq and Afganistan and they are really messed up and having a hard time keeping it together at 25, I'm 51 so I feel bad for them and bless ****s everyday for what I do have.
