Hi there,

had cough for 18 months (just mucus, but keeps me awake); the odd skin rash; worst symptom is sweating and shivering a lot and now in the last two weeks I have developed bad pains in my knees - so much so that this weekend couldn't walk up and down stairs. Only 49 - female. Eat healthily; keep fit, or I did, until the joint pain started. Don't smoke. Drink slightly more than limits allowed. Very happy, not stressed. But just feel unbelievably lethargic (mind you I don't sleep much - so that doesn't help!). Any suggestions appreciated.

Dr did basic blood test, but that just said i was OK. i don't feel OK!!

  • I have Relapsing Polychondritis, an extremely rare autoimmune disease that is frequently undiagnosed for many years. Some of the symptoms you describe go along with that disease; the coughing and the fatigue and the joint pain. Usually it first shows up as redness and pain in one or both eyes or redness and swelling of the ears but only the pinna, never the lobe, however it can affect the knees. The surest way to find out if it is Relapsing Polychondritis is to find out if it responds to Prednisone, which requires a doctor prescription. Try an eye, ears and throat specialist or a Rhumitologist.Good Luck and God Bless.
