I'm 15 years old and have been bloated for about 6 months without any relief. It's taking a huge toll on my life as I hate going out in public and am pretty much ashamed of my stomach because I literally look pregnant, even my parents have admitted that I do. I'm not overweight or anything, I'm a pretty healthy weight. About 5'5 and 115-117 pounds. This all started about January and has been going on ever since. We first went to a local GI doctor and had a colonoscopy done as well as a biopsy and the doc said there was nothing wrong and that I probably just had IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and that there was nothing to be done, just eat healthier and exercise. Well, that really ticked me off, because I am very obsessed with hygiene and definitely make it a point to workout and eat extremely healthy. At that time, I wasn't as bloated as I am now, and was only bloated on the weekdays it seemed and only midly so. We did blood tests for gluten and lactose allergies and those came up negative, but we had heard that blood tests weren't very accurate when it came to food allergies, so we did the elimination tests for both. Going gluten-free didn't seem to help at all and neither did going lactose free. My symptoms were definitely starting to get worse, I was pretty much constantly bloated. All the time. I was starting to get depressed and thinking maybe I was just fat and should workout more (note I was already getting obsessed with working out and if I hadn't worked out that day yet I would make sure to get it in no matter what time it was even if it was midnight...) because, I'm 15 years old and who doesn't want to look skinny and in shape whens summer's coming up? My mom and grandma have a history of polycistic-ovarian disease so we got a CT scan of my ovaries and I didn't have any cists. The bloating was still getting worse to the point where I was starting to wear baggy clothing and could not suck it in and my stomach would just sort of round out over the bulge (the insides of my stomach are pushing out). Around this time we realized that I hadn't had a period for quite a while and so we went to the gynecologist and she did some blood tests (can't remember what they were at the moment) but they came back negative and so they put me on Progesterone for 10 days and I finally had a period for the first time in six months. We had been hoping that the cause of my bloating was not having a period, but unfortunately, that was not the case. My bloating had gotten worse and I was starting to get even more depressed and went through a small period of time where I just stopped eating altogether, because my bloating went away after a few days of not eating. Of course, my parents got worried and I started eating again, my stomach seemed to bloat up within hours of eating again. I feel like I'm at my wit's end here, and we can't find anything. We're trying the gall bladder approach, but the doctor said that my few random chest pains and shoulder pains were not the "classic" story for a gall bladder attack and that I probably didn't have a gall bladder problem. I feel like we've tried everything and I'm absolutely sick of being bloated and I rarely show my face in public anymore and this has ruined my entire summer and I'm afraid I'll have to start the new school year like this.Reply Follow This Thread Stop Following This Thread Flag this Discussion
