Common cold causing hearing loss

Hi, I had a virus recently, with the usual symptoms (fever, runny nose, etc.), and my ears got all blocked up and with earache. I also had sinus pain on the cheeks. Antibiotics cleared that all up quickly, but the feeling of my ears being all blocked up has remained, and I have lost a significant level of hearing in both ears. I'm told by my doctor that this will gradually clear up on its own. Does anyone know how accurate that is?
