I am 17 years old and for the last seven years of my life I have had sinus trouble. Within the past two years I developed C.F.S./F.M. and GERD. I have also had numerous sinus surgeries and after 3 months my sinus trouble returned. Though just recently I went for a CT Scan and the doctors found my Sphenoid was severly infected and I was put on avelox for 40 days, with no improvement. My Two ENT's are stumped and worried that if they can't get it under control it will spread to my brain and cause a severe brain infection with a high mortality probability....I myself honestly have no idea what to think or what could be causing the severe infection and my other ailments.

  • I suffered from recurrent chronic sinus infection all my life i have been diagnosed with CVID common variable immunodeficiency which means my body does not make enough white blood cells to fight infection, sinusitis is a common problem for people with cvid if you are troubled by other infections it may be worth asking to be referred to an immunologist who can diagnose or rule out this disorder, I recently had a sinus operation that made new and larger drainage holes in my sinuses this has helped a great deal. You could look at the websites for CVID (just type in PIA into your search box ) and look at the Primary immunodeficiency Association website they have a list of signs and symptoms of immunodeficiencys to look for there is also a discussions forum that can help. Hope this will help. Diane:)

  • Please just look into candida fungal connection and chronic sinusitis. Do to your massive antibiotic use (avelox is very strong!) you may likely have leaky gut syndrome and candida overload. Please look into this as often sinusitis is fungal in nature, and also tied with CFIS and Fibro. Google candida or visit www.wholeapproach.com and www.candidasupport.org. At the very least you should be on a good quality probiotic to help rebuild your intestinal flora. Your intestines are a very important part of your immune system and if unbalanced this can lead to low immunity or even autoimmune problems. Most docs don't believe this, but if you try a cleanse you may notice real improvements in your symptoms. Also please look into food intolerances and consider eliminating wheat/gluten, sugar, dairy products from your diet. Consider something called NAET therapy to help eliminate allergies and get you back in balance. Lastly, get Dr. NeilMed's sinus rinse and use this several times a day. It is fantastic for sinus congestion and provides great relief. Takes a bit getting used to at first, but keep it up and it should really help. Find this at any Walgreen's drug store. Or get a neti pot at the healthfood store, same thing. These things I have used to help my chronic sinusitis. I am starting the NAET therapy tomorrow, and hope it makes a difference. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs have given me temporary relief, but I really feel there is an underlying allergy/intolerance/candida that is causing my problems. It's no fun having these symptoms and hope you get better soon. Best wishesDOM
