Chronic Hives

I have had chronic hives on and off since October 2006. I missed my period that month and now get hives, off and on. I think it is related to menopause, but all doctors think I am crazy. I can take prednizone shots and that helps the hives but I then get my period for 3 weeks straight.
I don't know which is better. I am now on predizone pills, benadryl, pepsid. They all help for awhile but now my lips are starting to swell again. Please help if you can. I am going to an allergy specialist in 2 weeks if I can wait that long, he deals with chronic hives.
Thank you.

  • Prednisone is very nasty - please check the side effects of this drug on www.drugs.com. Please be very careful while taking this drug! It may be more helpful to visit a NAET practitioner to help you with your hives...Western allergy testing and specialists just don't have all the answers and I have found them less than helpful - but that is just my own experience;) . NAET (Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique) is a revolutionary, noninvasive treatment that will test you for every type of allergen and then clear it from your body - www.naet.com for more info and testimonials. Have you had your liver enzymes checked? This should have been done to rule out liver problems. Best wishesDOM

  • I have had chronic hives for over 4 years. I still do not know what causes them and have a different theory every few months. I was just trying to eliminate all parabens from anything in my house. Now I'm starting to think I might need anxiety medication. The only medicine that keeps the hives at bay is the Wal Mart brand of Claritin (loratadine). I take one pill a day. Lately I have still been getting 2 or 3 a day on my arms and legs but that medicine usually works. Good luck!
