chest pain

I have had a pain in my chest on the right side, just under my breast. The pain is behind my ribs & at times is very painful. When I am still, what I feel is a slight pressure in the area but with movement including coughing, sneezing, hiccoughing and especially pressure the pain can be severe. I haven't had any injuries to the area but was ill about 6 weeks ago with a bad chest cold with constant coughing. I went to see a GP who sent me off for a chest X-ray which she said was clear & I had no rib damage. I have always been a pretty healthy person & have had no such problems previously. I am a little worried though and left the doctors feeling a little dissatisfied with her interest & dismissal of my complaint.Hoping someone may be able to advise me on if or what I should do next!

  • I am not a doctor (actually a microbiologist) but this sounds like pleurisy to me.Does it get worse when you breath in?Or it could be pleurodenia, which is caused by the Coxsackie B virus. It is also known as the devils grip because it feels like the devil has his claws in your chest. This is usually accompanied by fever. I dont know what the doctors can do. When I had it I just rested until it went away.I hope you feel better soon.
