Changing nervous ticks

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I'm in rather a strange position whereby I have noticed some disturbing behaviour in my 7 year old stepdaughter - It has been going on for quite a while.
She often displays ticks or twitches, but not often the same ones. Sometimes it may be that she repeats an action with her hands, the next time it might be her eyebrows or legs or mouth.
As she is only with us on a weekend I am not in a position to see when it starts and what may trigger it.
She doesn't develop them on a weekend she tends to turn up with them (if indeed she has one that particular week.)
Her mum is quite unreasonable and not easy to discuss anything with let alone something as big as this.
Can anyone give me a starting place to check this out from. I am very worried.
A beside herself Stepmum. X

  • Yes, sounds like she has a tic disorder and needs an evaluation by a neurologist. Tell mum you are worried and want to rule out something serious like seizures. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tic_disorder Print this out for her.

  • Thankyou for that - at least I'm not going off my trolley. Sadly her mum is very unreasonable - it is difficult to have a conversation about treating her headlice frequently never mind something like this that might involve a neurologist.Have you any other website addresses that may be of use? I can't book an appointment to see her doctor and neither could her dad as we do not have access to which doctor's she belongs to etc etc.If I can find out more information that my husbandand I could look at first we might then be able to figure out the best way to deal with mum.I'm just worried that non-one else seems to have picked up an this other than my husband and myself.
