Can Usual Interstitial Pneumonia Be Caused By An Isolated Incident?

Hi,

I had a VATS biopsy performed at the Cleveland Clinic that showed that I have early Usual Interstitial Pneumonia that could be caused by autoimmune disease, drug-related or Idiopathic.

I recently went to a local Pulmonary Doctor and she said that she felt that I had COPD (which Cleveland said I absolutely did not have COPD) and that the scarring on my lungs was probably caused by an isolated incident.

These two very different opinions are very confusing for me. Any input to help me better understand would be greatly appreciated.

However, that doesn't solve your problem. I want you to be very clear here that you are playing YOU BET YOUR LIFE for "all in" stakes. To clarify what is being looked at here, knowing your age, gender and complete list of symptoms would be a good start. There is a pretty good symptoms list at http://forums.wrongdiagnosis.com/showthread.php?t=62327 that might help clarify matters. Of course also include symptoms not on that list because that is a limited list. You symptoms from the list could say a lot.

The only 2 symptoms that I had were extreme shortness of breath (which landed me in the emergency room) and a Cat Scan that showed chronic scarring on my lungs. The Cleveland Clinic was so kind to me. I also tend to believe that they got the diagnosis correct, after all biopsy's typically do not lie. I am grateful that my scarring has not progressed. It is just so confusing.Best Regards
