My husband is 34 years and drove a tractor trailer for several years. He started having severe pain in his left calf muscle then it moved to the calf and thigh. So bad he couldn't drive anymore. Now he has severe fatigue, difficulty concentrating, muscle weakness, can't swallow very well and the pain is now in left arm and across chest also and sometimes on right side. He is a fireman and the heat makes him hurt worse. He has lost 25 pounds in 3 months and his muscles are smaller. He can't grip things well and trips alot. We have had an EMG done, MRI, blood work, thyroid tests and all have been normal. The neurologist seems to think we are crazy, but we have no health insurance and 3 kids so all these tests are coming out of our pocket. Please any answers or suggestions. He was a very active person and wonderful dad but now he can barely move, eat, work or play with the kids. We don't know what to do. Dr. said he could be depressed she prescribed Wellbutrin and baclofen. He's not depressed!! Please help:(

  • Dear Sarabeth Your husband has symptoms similar to a friend of mine who was recently diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Was your husband ever in the military? Ever had a severe accident? Ever had a severe case of flu before onset of his symptoms? If he has CFS, traditional medicine will treat symptoms. He will need to treat the cause. Many patients are stating relief with herbal supplements, vitamins, minerals, sea salt. water and therapies such as Reiki and NAET therapies. We are a western civilization and many of these things seem like quackery but, millions of people around the world can't be wrong.

  • Thank you for your reply. No he has never been in the military but he is a firefighter and has been since he was 18. He says he isn't stressed alot but I am sure he is. I don't know that much about alternative medicine so I will do some research. Again thank you!!

  • 5 years ago i was just like you're husband. a friend of mine gave me braggs raw apple cider vinegar and i started drinking it daily. the doctors told me i would never work again and now i am back to working full time and feeling great. it was along road and alot of gagging down that nasty vinegar but was well worth it. i no longer trust doctors and think i would still be druged in bed if it was them i listened to. good luck!!!

  • Does CTS cause muscle twitches and severe spasms? Since he has been on the baclofen he hasn't had those as bad but he is afraid to stop taking those. Can you have MS with a negative MRI?

  • Sarabeth, how many vaccines are firefighter's required to recieve on a yearly basis. In a career? Does he recieve an annual "flu shot" from his doctor?. Has he had the Hepatitis B series of vaccinations? If your husband says he's not stressed, I would believe himHis symptoms certainly indicate a physiological, not psychological issue

  • I'm not sure the last time he had any type of vaccine. He hasn't had anything like that done in 12 years. He just keeps getting worse and we don't have any answers at all. I am not sure what to do.

  • I tried the symptoms checkers. It seems to fit with CFS. About 2 years ago he had a series of tests on his heart and he had mitral valve and tricuspid valve prolapse. Can that cause problems like this also. CFS has never been mentioned by his dr.
