I am very new to this website and forum so please bear with me. I have some kind of ataxia, and I am desperately trying to figure out which kind and what is causing it. Not one doctor has been able to diagnose me. After doing much research on the internet, I know the name for it is "ataxia". I just don't know if it is episodic ataxia or ataxia caused by a vit b12 deficiency (444 pg/mL) or toxic copper in my system (44 ug/g as measured by hair nutrient analysis).
Since I was about 12, I have had these episodes of dizziness, uncoordination, headaches, followed by nausea and vomiting. The episodes stopped for 5 years from when I was 30-35, and then I had to have a hysterectomy, and they came back. I have now been dealing with them again for 6 years.
I have seen countless doctors and specialists, and no one has been of much help. The latest diagnosis I had was basilar migraines. And I did find out I am gluten sensitive, so in June (2009), I started a gluten-free diet. I have not noticed much difference. In fact I think the episodes have gotten worse since starting the diet. When I get these episodes, my speech is slurred as well. That is a fairly new symptom.
I am hoping someone will have an answer. I read all about episodic ataxia, and those symptoms and stories sound so familiar to me. But I have also been reading about b 12 deficiency and wondered about that. And I do have higher copper than normal, so I am wondering if that could be the cause.
Please help.....any suggestions or recommendations would be welcome.
