aspiration?

18 y/o f had laparotomy for ruptured appendicitis. intraop-congestive appendix, L paratubal cyst 1x1 cm only. 12 hrs post-op patient had sudden onset of difficulty of breathing. imp: aspiration vs acute respiratory distress syndrome. She died on the 5th post-op day due to sepsis.

She died on the 5th post-op day due to sepsis. If emergency lap appe, she may have eaten prior to the surgery. This would explain the aspiration. Also she could have been septic from the rupture dumping toxins into her abdomen. The aspiration would cause Acute respiratory distress in a patient of any age. The aspiration combined with the sepsis is a very difficult thing to treat.If you're asking is this possible - yesIf you're askiing is this common - no
