My 15 year old son (developement Delayed and on Autism Spectrum) has a anxiety condition where he has a fear to swallow food, he will eat fluid type food but refuses any solids he was on resperidol and zyprexia for behavioural issues and would dry wretch after eating meals. After several months of 2010 and now into 2011 spending time in hospital Doctors have no explanation for his problem, has been treated with reflux medication in case this was a sympton to start with and has had his temper behaviour under control using cognitive treatment by psych team of doc's and now is on zyprexia again to see if this will lower his anxiety for swallowing . If the months trial does not change things they will send him home with nasal gastric tube to keep him sustained at a acceptable weight.
Has any one experienced or know of a similiar case and if they know what was done to treat it as we want to have the son we know back ( desperate now as the doctors are running out of options for treatment).
