afternoon exhaustion

For years I have found myself exhausted in the late afternoon to the point that I have to lay down for at least 30 minutes or more. I am a high energy person but if I neglect doing this I feel confused, nauseated and grouchy. Also, I will feel terrible all night long. I find that I need to eat immediately in the morning and can't skip meals or I feel the same way. I've also noticed that extreme stress makes it worse. I am not overweight (I'm the high side of normal) and I do exercise. I am otherwise pretty much healthy. Any ideas?
