I am posting this thread to share my story with hopes of finding answers or at least with hopes to help someone else experiencing the same sort of issues. Basically I was diagnosed with intestinal malrotation about 1 year ago, before that I had lived with several "stomach issues" my entire life and never really knew what was wrong. I ended being hospitalized for a small bowel obstruction which eventually led to my diagnosis. I felt like finally I had some answers to all of my symptoms (diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, intermittent abdominal pain). However it's been the complete opposite, every single doctor I have spoke to has either never seen this condition in adults or doesn't feel it's the actual problem and relates my symptoms to irritable bowel syndrome. I have spent countless hours in the emergency room which has led to over 5 hospitalizations for small bowel obstructions. This is like playing with fire, each one seems to get worse and there still is no doctor that is willing to take on my case. Does anyone have a similar experience? Does anyone know of a physician who can help, I am at wits end? Please help!

  • I also just heard I had this last year, and have yet to call and schedule surgery. Not sure where you are from, but UNC Chapel Hill, in N.C. will do it. They probably have done this surgery mostly on young children but, have assured me they do this all the time there! Gastroenterologists there said they do this surgery all the time. Which Im quiet shocked by because my own personal doctor had to look up info for me on this, when she told me my results, as she knew nothing of this either! Very scary feeling alone!

  • I have just been diagnosed with this condition as I am over 50. My doctor says that she doesn't understand how I've gone this long without anyone detecting this. A CT scan revealed what I thought to be gallstones from the pain coming near or around my liver but in the findings the doctor said it's Malrotation of the Small intestine, that it is congenital, and that the only remedy is surgery because this can be a life threatening condition. The Twisting of the intestine can get cut off from oxygen supply causing death. Please find a gastroenterologist if you haven't already done so. I hope to have surgery soon. Bless you all.
