4 month old daughter with a cataract in left eye

When my daughter was 2 months old her pediatrician discovered a black spot in her left eye. She referred me to an opthamologist, which confirmed that she had a cataract. She says that surgery is not the best option right now because the cataract is only 1 1/2 millimeters long. She is now 4 months old and I patch her eye for 1 1/2 hours a day. Does anyone have a child with a cataract in either eye, if so, please help and let me know what to expect in the future. Would surgery help??

  • You can contact your state school for deaf and blind. They will have resources available to help monitor the condition and have preventative information for you.
